SPRING BREAK-EDINBURGH

QUICK NOTE

I just wanted to send all of you faithful readers a quick note. My apologies for not having any captions or such to go with my spring break pictures, but I just wanted to let you know that they are coming. I plan on getting my Edinburgh pictures upload sometimes this week, after which I will add captions and such to them all so that you will have a more clear picture of where I went, what I did, and my overall experience in those places. SPRING BREAK-LYON

La Tourette- monastery by Le Corbusier in the hills of France.

In Lyon I was with my studio class from UCD. Lyon is the second largest city in France (behind Paris). It was part of the course so the tutors (professors) were there as well and we spent our time studying the architecture. We saw a lot of buildings including some of Le Corbusier's work (who was a modernist architect). I definitely wasn't a fan at first but the more I learn the more respect I have for his work. It was a good time of studying, exploring, sketching and getting to know my classmates.

The windows were one of my favorite parts. This is the view from the dining hall down the hill...breathe-taking view!

We had to do some surveying while there. Each student got one building they had to sketch and measure and such so that we could go back and make an accurate drawing of the building in studio. Mine was the peach building in the middle. The detail of the building was beautiful!

The square in "Old Lyon". It's hard to believe but below this square is a 7 story car park! The guy at the entrance looked at some of the girls from my class funny when they asked if they could walk into the car park...love being those awkward architecture students :)

Loved this fountain in that square. It had so much life and energy.

These guys were probably my favorite part of this part of the trip. They were standing in a street similar to the one in the picture above. They were playing famous French songs and they were amazing!! I stood and watched for about 15 minutes and by the time I left there were probably 100 people standing there listening! (and that's not an exaggeration)

On a lot of the buildings they had large murals that would cover much of a wall. Lots of times they were painted to almost blend in to what is really physically there. Did you realize what is painted and what is real in this photo? :)

This was definitely one of the best meals I had the whole trip. It was a fish pasta and thai chicken I think. We also got desert and shared so we could try them all. So good!
